paula's poem

paula writes poems in her book
the one titled POEMS
and she writes of spring and flowers
fields, dreams and butterflies
and every line starts in capital
her stanzas neatly rhyme
  nothing fancy (couplets mostly)
and she's content

none shall read what paula writes
except her husband (sometimes)
who'll read them as he would
a newspaper, feigned interest
she doesn't really mind
she reads them when she's sad
and they make her feel better
and she's never called herself a poet

she writes poems for birds
and odes to love, to peace, to hope
she uses cliche in every line
because she'll say they're true
and she makes no fuss
her poetry is obvious and simple
and she needs nothing more from it
sometimes
i envy her
